What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?
Iron-on-Ink is an innovative craft sublimation medium to create unique designs that you can transfer to a endless selection of blanks. You can create some amazing one-of-a-kind gifts that will last a lifetime. When the finished sublimation design is combined with heat and pressure, the ink turns into a gas and binds to the polyester fabric or poly-coated blank leaving you with a permanent transfer. Between Artesprix's plethora of Iron-on-Ink products and the endless amount of compatible sublimation blanks, the possibilities are endless! Iron-on-Inks is fabulous because you don’t have to invest in an expensive sublimation printer to create some high quality projects right in your home! Plus, if you’re more “hands on” or “hands inky” like me, I feel you can get so much more creative with the Sublimation Inks, Paints and Markers that Artesprix offers!
Supplies:
Buttons
Sublimation Stamp Pads
Stamp Block or Press
Protective Paper Roll
Heat Tape
Pencil
Copy Paper
Non-Stick Craft Mat Sheet
Stamps
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: We are going to create a background for our stamped image first. Start by randomly dabbing color directly from your ink pads all over your non- stick craft mat. I used pink, yellow and blue inks for my design.
Step 2: Spritz your mat with water to get those inks flowing and beading up.
Step 3: Press your white copy paper into the ink. You can lift and move the paper and repeat, to layer the inks as you like.
Step 4: Allow to dry completely. This is a great time to turn on your heat source. These buttons call for 400℉. If your heat press is already on, place your artwork underneath to dry immediately.
Step 5: Create a template to help you select your favorite part of your background to use on your button. Once you find your favorite, place your button on top and trace it with a pencil.
Step 6: To ensure perfect placement for my design, I placed my template in a stamping positioning tool. Ink your preferred stamp design in a Sublimation Ink Pad. I used Black and Purple.
Pro Tip: Artesprix Sublimation Inks are translucent so choose colors that will compliment one another.
Step 7: Once you have your designs fully stamped, simply tape your button blank shiny side down onto your transfer with Heat Tape.
Step 8: Now you're ready to make your "sublimation sandwich". Simply layer a sheet of protective paper on your press, followed by the buttons with the design facing the heat source, and they another layer of protective paper on top.
Step 9: Press your buttons at 400℉.for 60 seconds.
Step 10: Once you’ve pressed your blank you can now do a "peek test". Simply lift up the corner and see if your design has transferred. You’ll want to keep the tape in place in case you need to re-press.
Step 11: My "peek test" was successful, the colors looked great, so I revealed my finished project and WOW! Look at the difference between the before and after it has been pressed.
Step 12: Allow to cool completely before applying the adhesive pin. Be sure to place appropriately so your button hangs the correct way when worn.
I love that I can personalize things so easily with Artesprix Iron-on-Ink. You can grab the Button Blanks in the Artesprix Shop. Use them for when you need to create wearable masterpieces for yourself. There are endless possibilities for this beautiful blank, the only limit is your imagination.
