What are Sublimation Arts & Crafts Supplies

The word "sublimation" is a chemistry term that describes the process of a substance (like Iron-on-Ink) going from a solid state to a gaseous phase and skipping over the liquid phase. In the world of designing custom goods, sublimation offers a permanent way to transfer a design to a polyester surface. The result is a vibrant, custom designed product that is long-lasting and durable. If you’ve always wanted to try sublimation but thought you needed an expensive, specialty printer, you’re in luck because Artesprix makes it possible to sublimate without a sublimation printer!

Supplies:
Sequin Pillow Case
Sublimation Acrylic Paint
Paintbrush
Protective Paper
Heat Tape
Heat Tape Dispenser
Protective Project Mat
Heat Resistant Gloves
Heat Source
Copy Paper/Cardstock

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: To create our template, I used he biggest size paper I have is 11"x17", and trimmed it down to 11"x11" so it fits entirely on the pillow case.

Step 2: I used a kitchen plate to make a perfect circle and then I sketched a fun emoji face with pencil.

Step 3: Paint inside the sketched pencil lines. I tried very hard not to overlap colors so they are as pure as possible.

Step 4: While the design is drying, make sure to flip all your sequins over, white side up. Use tweezers for any stragglers.

Pro Tip: Once all sequins are white side up, wipe with a microfiber cloth to remove any dust or micro-debris.

Step 5: Tape down your completely dry design face-down onto the sequins. Be generous with the tape.

Step 6: Cut 2 sheets of Protective Paper larger than the Sequin Pillow. Place one on top of the heat press mat, then add the secured project, and then add the other piece of Protective Paper on top.

Step 7: Press with heavy pressure for 400ºF for 60 seconds.

Step 8: Take a peek! Gently lift a corner to see if the color has transferred. If it has, then you’re good to go. If it doesn’t look bright, check your time, temperature, pressure, project position, and re-press.

Step 9: Once it has cooled, reveal the transferred design! I love the reveal of this happy face. It’s a bit of fun that’s sure to bring smiles.
