What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?
It is an interesting and fun product that allows you to create a design on standard copy paper that can then be heat transferred onto surfaces (must have polyester in it or have a polyester coating). Once the project is transferred to the blank, it is lifetime permanent. Before Artesprix, you would need a fancy printer to experience this level of personalization, but not anymore!
Supplies:
Sublimation Ink pad –Violet, Rose, Read, Black,
Stampers Anonymous, Tim Holtz Collection – Heartfelt
Lori’s Cards & Creations – Sublimation Words
Wood Beads
Computer Paper
Brayer
Twine
Stick
Heat Press or Handheld Craft Press
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Ensure you have a piece of paper larger than your Heart Ornament Blank. You can measure the blank or check the Artesprix website for dimensions.
Step 2: Ink up a brayer with sublimation ink pad and brayer off excess ink first on scrap paper, then roll brayer over the paper created in Step 1. Repeat this process with two different colors of sublimation ink.
Step 3: Ink a rubber stamp and stamp apply a first and second generation designs across the paper.
Step 4: Stamp Butterfly design with Purple Sublimation Stamp Pad.
Step 5: Stamp Heart design with Black Sublimation Stamp Pad.
Step 6: Using an acrylic stamping block, stamp “Love” using Lori’s Cards & Creations – Sublimation Words.
Step 7: When finished designing, place ornament over the section of paper that you would like to transfer and secure with heat tape.
Step 8: Make a "Sublimation Sandwich" by placing the ornament between two pieces of protective paper larger than your design.
Step 9: Heat set using appropriate settings for blank. Artesprix Heart Ornaments call for 400℉ with a transfer time of 75 seconds.
Step 10: After heat set, conduct a "peek test" at the transfer to ensure the design is vibrant, without removing the tape. This way, you can re-heat if necessary.
Step 11: Remove paper to reveal finished design.
Step 12: Don’t forget to sublimate the back of the ornament as well before adding the ribbon that is included in the set or you can use twine and a stick to create a hanger for the ornament. When attaching heart to hanger, embellish with wood beads.
I hope you enjoyed this project and agree that Sublimating these Heart Shaped Metal Ornaments will make terrific and unique gifts for all the Valentines in your life.
