Cozy Christmas Decor with Sublimation Paint & Gel Press Plate

Artesprix Design Team
Decorative Panel, Gel Press, Paints

Hi Everyone! My name is Sarah Goulet from A Paper Moment. I’m sharing with you a cozy inspired project using the Artesprix Decorative Metal Panel and Sublimation Paint. Winter is in full swing which means it’s sweater weather! I used a sweater design background stamp and a Gel plate for a lovely winter panel.

What are Artesprix Sublimation Arts & Crafts Supplies?

Artesprix has produced specially formulated products that permanently transfer a design you create onto a polyester or polyester coated substrate (the blank) through a mechanism called sublimation. Sublimation is a chemical process in which the combination of heat and pressure allows the solid form of the design to turn into a gas and permanently integrate into your project so it won’t peel or fade. What’s great is that along with the Artesprix sublimation arts and craft supplies such as Sublimation Markers, Paints, and Inks, you can easily utilize items you may already have such as stamps, stencils, and electronic cutting machines for quick and easy projects.

Supplies:

Decorative Metal Panel

Sublimation Acrylic Paints

Heat Tape

Protective Paper Roll

Protective Project Mat

The Ton Stamps Christmas Sweater Background Stamp

Gel Plate

Brayer

Rubbing Alcohol

Soft Cloth

Copy/Printer Paper

Scissors

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: Use a Gel Press Plate that’s larger than the 6”x6” blank and brayer on Red Sublimation Acrylic Paint.

Pro Tip: A little paint goes a long way.

Step 2: Take the background stamp and press it onto the coated gel plate. I used The Ton Stamps Christmas Sweater background stamp. Carefully peel off the stamp.

Pro Tip #2: Keep one of the acetate sheets that comes with the stamp packaging on the top of the stamp so it is easier to pull off the stamp from the gel plate.

Step 3: Lay a piece of plain copy paper onto the gel plate design and burnish with your hands. Peel back the paper to pull your print.

Step 5: Clean your blank with some rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth to get rid of any potential residue, dust, or fingerprints.

Step 6: Place the Decorative Metal Panel onto the print with the white side facing the print. Given that the stamp was approximately 6”x 6,” I didn’t trace the blank beforehand.

Step 7: Secure the design to the blank with Heat Tape. Trim down the paper if needed.

Step 8: Assemble your “sublimation sandwich.” Sandwich recipe is Protective Paper, Blank with design on top, Protective Paper. Protective Paper will protect your work surface and heat source.

Step 9: If using a handheld heat source, place the Protective Project Mat onto a sturdy surface. Place your “sandwich” onto the Project Mat with the design closest to the heat source. Press your project for 90 seconds at 400℉.

Step 10: With heat protective gloves on, peel back a corner for a “peek test” to see if your design has fully transferred. If it has not, place the corner back and press again.

Step 11: Let your project cool completely. Then peel off the design to reveal your cozy sweater panel! Once cool, attach the easel stand that comes with the Decorative Metal Panel to display your creation.
