Da Bears Tumbler with Artesprix Markers

Hi everyone! It’s Designer Mandie back again with another fun idea for your next Iron-on-Ink project! I love watching football games with my husband and I have had this super cute Bear stamp for a while, so I thought I would create a cute wine tumbler to use while we are enjoying Sunday football games together. If you have not tried a sublimation drink ware project yet then you will want to read on. I'll be sharing everything you need to know to complete your first 3D sublimation artesprix project!

What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?

Iron-on-Ink is an innovative craft sublimation medium to create unique designs that you can transfer to an endless selection of blanks. You can create some amazing one-of-a-kind gifts that will last a lifetime. When the finished sublimation design is combined with heat and pressure, the ink turns into a gas and binds to the polyester fabric or poly-coated blank leaving you with a permanent transfer. Between Artesprix's plethora of Iron-on-Ink products and the endless amount of compatible sublimation blanks, the possibilities are endless! Iron-on-Inks is fabulous because you don’t have to invest in an expensive sublimation printer to create some high quality projects right in your home! Plus, if you’re more “hands on” or “hands inky” like me, I feel you can get so much more creative with the Sublimation Inks, Paints and Markers that Artesprix offers!

Supplies:

Tumbler

Heat Tape

Iron-on-Ink Stamp Pads

Iron-on-Ink Markers

Sublimation Wrap

Acrylic Block

The Stamps of Life Polar Bear Stamp

Heat Gun

Copy Paper

Designated Craft Oven

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: Measure the flat surface of your Artesprix Blank Tumbler (above where it curves) to determine the dimensions of your deisgn.

Step 2: Using the same measurements, create a template on your copy paper. Then stamp your designer design using your Black Iron-on-Ink Stamp Pads within the template.

Step 3: Once you have your outline, color in the stamped design with markers or you can use the stamp pads and some water to paint.

To add text, I used my Iron on Ink Markers to write “Da Bears” backwards on another piece of copy paper.

Pro Tip: Write your desired text with pencil on plain paper and use a light box or a window with daylight to trace onto the backside of your paper with sublimation marker.

IMPORTANT: Remove the plastic lid, adhesive label on the bottom, and any other loose parts from the Artesprix Blank Tumbler.
Step 4: Set your Designated Craft Convection Oven to 350  to preheat while you prepare your tumbler.

Step 5: Trim down your design leaving a one inch border that you can use to apply the Artesprix Heat Tape to your tumbler. If you have multiple designs, cut them out individually and tape securely.

Pro Tip #2: Only use Heat Tape on the outer edge of your design, not over it, as the heat resistant characteristic of the tape will affect the consistency of the transfer.

Step 6: Place your Tumbler into the Artesprix Sublimation Wrap and use the Heat Gun to shrink the wrap to fit the tumbler. Work quickly and move from area to area so the wrap doesn’t overheat, we just need the heat to shrink the wrap so it acts as our pressure during the transfer process.

Step 7: Place the Tumbler into the designated Craft Toaster/Convection Oven. Place vertically and bake for 5 minutes.

Safety first, do not leave your craft oven unattended.

Step 8: After 5 minutes had passed, I could clearly see the design through the Tumbler Wrap. So I am confident I got a great transfer. Then I carefully removed my Tumbler from the oven.

Pro Tip #3: If you have Heat resistant gloves, it is easier to remove the Tumbler Wrap warm than cool.

Step 9: "Peek Test". Remove part of the Tumbler Wrap and if you see your design on the inside of your wrap, you got a great transfer. If you didn't get a good transfer, check your temperature time, remove the wrap, leave your design taped, use another Tumbler Wrap and bake again.

Step 10: Once you confirmed your transfer was successful, remove the heat tape/each design and reveal your finished transfer!

Once your Tumbler is completely cool, fill with your beverage of choice and enjoy the football game! These are not just great for football, use them for your kid's sporting events or to represent your other favorite professional sports teams! These tumblers can go in the dishwasher and your design will not be removed. If you decide to try this project yourself, make sure you post a picture to the Artesprix Inspiration Facebook Group as we would love to see it!

Go Chicago Bears! Until next time,

Mandie Wade
