DIY Annual Keepsake Ornament with Artesprix Iron-on-Ink

Artesprix Design Team
Blank of the Month, Ornaments, Stamp Pads

Hello and welcome!  My name is Linh from LVHandcrafted. The new Maple Ornament is a fabulous way to start a new family tradition - make your own ornament!  I’m using the Sizzix Folk Numbers die set to actually create number stamps to easily sublimate the year onto this ornament.  Because the blank is double-sided, you can add another design to the other side. I’ll be handwriting a messaging and signing the ornament with Artesprix markers before gifting this fabulous ornament to my in-laws!

What are Sublimation Arts & Crafts Supplies

The word "sublimation" is a chemistry term that describes the process of a substance (like Iron-on-Ink) going from a solid state to a gaseous phase and skipping over the liquid phase. In the world of designing custom goods, sublimation offers a permanent way to transfer a design to a polyester surface. The result is a vibrant, custom designed product that is long-lasting and durable. If you’ve always wanted to try sublimation but thought you needed an expensive, specialty printer, you’re in luck because Artesprix makes it possible to sublimate without a sublimation printer!

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: I start my project by making some stamps from my dies! Foam sheets make a great stamp. If you are using foam sheets that have adhesive on one side, be sure to cut from the foam side because you’ll need to mirror your stamping and you’ll use the adhesive side to adhere to your stamp block.

Step 2: Trace the blank using a pencil onto plain copy/printer paper. Be sure to trace the hole in the ornament too so you know not to stamp where the hole is.

Step 3: Using your pencil lines as a guide, stamp your design using a Sublimation Ink Pad. Remember to mirror your design.

Step 4: Repeat the Steps 1-3 to create a design for the opposite side. Idea, create a design with a handwritten message and sign it with Artesprix markers.

Step 5: Tape one of your designs your blank using heat tape.

Step 6: Sandwich your blank & design in between protective paper so there’s paper above and below the blank.

Step 7: Press your design into your blank at 400°F for 45 seconds. Make sure the design is on top of the blank and closest to the heat press.

Step 7: Take a peek to make sure the sublimation ink has transferred.

Step 8: Allow blank to cool and repeat steps above to add the second design to the opposite side.

Step 8: Add your ribbon (included with the blanks) to the ornament.
