DIY Trivet Paint Class with Artesprix Sublimation Paint

Blank Of The Month, Paints, trivet

Hello! I am Paula from Paula’s Studio. I am primarily a paper crafter who loves to make greeting cards but I also love using paper and my creativity to make other things. My excitement for Artesprix products comes from the ability to use the inks in different forms and techniques to expand on the options of how I can use my skills and artwork. I used Artesprix Paints to paint a picture meant for acrylic paint on canvas from an online painting class where they walk you through how to paint a specific picture. The in-person classes were so popular that there are some online studios offering them. I am not a great artist by any measure, but I do okay when someone guides me. I wanted to give it a try with Artesprix paints. I chose to use Artist's Palette but there are more options out there.

What are Artesprix Sublimation Arts & Crafts Supplies?

Sublimation is the process of taking a solid ink and applying heat and pressure to allow it to vaporize skipping the liquid state. This causes the ink to permanently adhere to the surface if it is primarily a form of polyester or poly-coating as the heat causes the surface to accept the gases leaving behind vibrant and permanent colors. Commercially, printers are used to print the designs. Artesprix provides products such as markers, ink pads, and paints to allow us to create projects at home without committing to a printer and lets us dip into our creative side too.

Supplies:

Trivet

Sublimation Acrylic Paint

Pencil

Copy/printer paper

Paint mixing tray/palette or a paper plate

Paint brush

Cup with water

Artesprix Heat Tape

Artesprix Protective Paper Roll

Heat Source

Heat Protection Gloves

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Designer's Note: Sublimation paints act a little differently than other acrylic paints when layering colors. You will have a better result if you layer dark colors on top of light colors. Think of that when choosing a painting and while painting. I always saved black for the last color added no matter what the instructor says. The heat process will pull the darker colors through and they will prevail.

Step 1: Trace the trivet on the sheet of paper. This is now your painting canvas template.

Step 2: Start the video instruction and follow the artist as they guide you through the painting of your chosen design. Pause the video as needed. Remember: layer dark colors on top of light colors for the best final result. Don’t be afraid to mix colors to get the shade that you want. The white paint is designed specifically for this.

Step 3: If you don’t like the final painting, try it again it’s only paper! A little paint goes a long way.

Step 4: Once your artwork is dry, securely tape the Trivet face down using Heat Tape.

Step 5: Create a "sublimation sandwich" by placing your secured project between two pieces of protective paper.

Step 6: Press with paper face down on the trivet using heavy pressure at 400 ℉ for 105 seconds.

Step 7: Be cautious this step is HOT, please use heat protection gloves. After the full time has transpired, lift a corner of the paper and peek to ensure that the ink has transferred and is vibrant on the trivet. If not, heat again.

Step 9: Enjoy your masterpiece! No sealing necessary, perfect to serve a cheese and cracker snack tray.
