What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?
Iron-on-Ink is an innovative craft sublimation medium to create unique designs that you can transfer to a endless selection of blanks. You can create some amazing one-of-a-kind gifts that will last a lifetime. When the finished sublimation design is combined with heat and pressure, the ink turns into a gas and binds to the polyester fabric or poly-coated blank leaving you with a permanent transfer. Between Artesprix's plethora of Iron-on-Ink products and the endless amount of compatible sublimation blanks, the possibilities are endless! Artesprix is fabulous because you don’t have to invest in an expensive printer to create some very cool projects right in your home! Plus, if you’re more “hands on” or “hands inky” like me, I feel you can get so much more creative with the Sublimation Inks, Paints and Markers that Artesprix offers.
Supplies:
Sublimation Ink Pads: Pink, Yellow and Blue
Lint Roller
Copy Paper
Cricut Machine
Plain Copy Paper
Artesprix Multi Purpose Cleaner
Paper Towels
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Drag a Pink Sublimation Ink Pad down the copy paper to make a solid pink line. Then take the Yellow Sublimation Ink Pad and do the same, slightly overlapping the Pink line. Repeat with the Blue, then do all 3 again to create a rainbow look.
Pro Tip: Keep Paper Towels and Artesprix Multi-Purpose Cleaner handy during the above step.
Step 2: Create your design in Cricut Design Space or using another machine’s software. Make sure to flip your words so it will be facing the right way when you adhere the letters to your onesie. Then add your paper to the cutting mat and cut out the design.
Pro Tip #2: Use a lint roller to remove any lint from the onesie while your machine is cutting your text.
Step 3: Remove the individual letters and apply as desired face-down to the Onesie. Use pieces of heat tape to adhere your letters to your onesie.
Step 4: Make the “sublimation sandwich” by layering protective paper inside the onesie, then one on top, and another layer of protective paper on the bottom. You will press this at 390℉ for 50 seconds.
Step 5: Do the "peek test", peel back a little of your design to confirm the design transferred. If it didn't, check your time, temperature, and pressure and re-press.
Step 6: If Step 5 was successful, remove all the letters and reveal your vibrant, personalized transfer. Allow onesie to cool before repeating the steps above to personalize the other side.
I hope you enjoyed learning how quickly you can create a quality, personalized gift for a precious baby! These onesies will stand the test of time just like any other sublimation project. Rest assured the transfer will stay wash after wash. If you try this technique make sure you share it with us in the Artesprix Facebook Group!
Until next time,
(The Blank of the Month for August, it's a great one!)
