Create one of a kind Metal Luggage Tags that can identify your luggage on all your travels
Hi everyone! Leeann here from the Artesprix Guest Design Team and I wanted to share this really fun and easy Iron-on-Ink Project with you. Today, I am going to show you how I designed a set of metal luggage tags for my husband and I using just a few products and a little bit of time. This full project start to finish took less than 30 minutes, WOW! I have a video towards the end of the blog to show you the step by step Metal Luggage Tags Sublimation Process. Let’s get to it!
Trace your Metal Luggage Tags on a sheet of copy paper. This gives you an idea of the amount of workspace you have to work with. The really neat thing is that the lead will not transfer later.
Step 2.
Using stamps create the design you would like to have on your tag, remembering that This should be done backwards or as we like to say, “mirrored,” so when the ink is transferred during the heat transfer process the images will actually be in the correct orientation when finished.
Step 3.
This is my favorite part! Using the Iron-on-Ink Stamp Pad dab the stamps onto the ink pad and then place the images as desired onto the plain copy paper. You want to stay within the pencil lines as anything outside that will not transfer to the bag. Using the Sublimation Markers in the colored desired areas. I decided to retrace the pencil lines. The ink may look dull on the paper, however, when transferred it will be much brighter.
Step 4.
Next, I wanted to have our names on the back of the Metal Luggage Tags, so I wrote my name on a piece of copy paper the same size needed for the tag, I then made my own lightbox by placing an led light under a plastic book-stand. I placed the panel with my name on it backward and traced it using the Artesprix Bold Marker. I do not have a photo however, I also stamped the word travel above our names from the Hand lettered Basics Mirrored Word stamp set.
Step 5.
Next, place the Metal Luggage Tags on your Iron-on-Ink design and secure with Artesprix Heat Tape. I used four pieces of heat tape to make sure that the blank was nice and secure during the heat transfer process. Lastly, add your two pieces of protective paper on the top and the bottom to create a Sublimation Sandwich. Flip your, “Sublimation Sandwich” over so that your design is facing upwards to meet your heat of choice. By doing so, you ensure the best image transfer to you Metal Luggage Tags during the sublimation process.
Step 6.
For this step unfortunately I do not have a film or video, I went to a friend’s home to use her heat-press, and wow it was so fast. We set the heat for 400 degrees Fahrenheit to reach the desired temperature. Then, I put the Sublimation Sandwich Bag Tags in the press for 60 seconds. I have now purchased my own heat press because of this and will be sublimating gifts for everyone from now on!
Step 7.
Allow your piece to cool for a couple of minutes. Once the blank has cooled down you can peel back the copy paper off your bank and reveal your completed Ink project.

I really loved designing these Metal Luggage Tags because in the end not only did I have fun crafting but now we have personally designed luggage tags and will always be able to spot ours at the airport or cruise terminal! If you loved this you definitely need to check out Maria’s Bag Tags as well! How fun was that? I just can’t wait to start thinking about my creation…
