Hello! Design Team Member Alison Heikkila here.  If you've been unsure about trying sublimation with Artesprix in the past, I think that today's post might help you jump in with both feet! Artesprix is now offering coloring books, and they've already been printed with special ink so that all you need to do is cut out the design or letter you want, color it in, and sublimate! It's so easy and quick, plus there are a number of themes available! I used the Large Mandala Coloring Book on my Glitter Zip Case, and I couldn't believe how quickly I finished my project.

What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?

Artesprix Sublimation Markers, Ink, and Paint are specially formulated to allow you to use basic copy paper to: color, stamp, stencil, and monoprint anything you wish and turn it into a heat-transferable design. These designs are then applied to a polyester or polyester coated substrate with heat and pressure. You can use a heat press or a home iron! These designs, through this process of sublimation, will become permanent on your substrates.

Supplies:

Artesprix:

Glitter Zip Case

Sublimation Markers in Bold

Mandala Coloring Book (Large)

Heat Tape

Protective Paper

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: Remove your chosen mandala from the Sublimation Coloring Book. Start to color in the Mandala with the Bold Sublimation Markers. I used Marigold for the Center, followed by Pine.

Step 2: Continue coloring the Mandala. I used Navy and Teal on the next shape, and then I finished it off with Plum. You can color this with any combination you like. The colors are very muted right now, but they will brighten up a lot when we sublimate.

Here is my completed Mandala. Isn't that simple? You can of course color these however you like.

Step 3: It's time to tape our Blank to our design. I wanted to have my Mandala coming off of the corner of the Glitter Zip Case. Use the Heat Tape to attach the elements together.

Step 4: Let’s make the Sublimation Sandwich! Flip the taped design and Blank over. Cut a piece of Protective Paper that’s larger than the paper and place it underneath the Blank, and another to go on top.

Step 5: It’s time to sublimate. Place the Sublimation Sandwich into your heat press. The temperature should be 385°F degrees, and you’ll press the Glitter Zip Case for 45 seconds.

Pro Tip: Be sure to leave the entire zipper hanging over the edge of the heat press. If you press the zipper, you’ll likely squish it and it will no longer work.

Step 6: It's time for the Peek Test to make sure our design sublimated well. Lift up a corner of the design to check the Blank. If it looks good, we can remove the paper. If not, we can re-sublimate without having shifted the design.

Here is our finished design. Look at all of that sparkle!!! I really like having an asymmetrical design like this, even though the Mandala itself is symmetrical. Those colors are so vibrant now!

This is such a fun project, and it is so quick and easy to do. I am loving the new coloring books from Artesprix. They compliment their other products so well. I'm looking forward to using them again soon. How would you like to get more ideas on using Artesprix’s Sublimation Ink Pads, Markers, and Paint?
