Triple Tasseled Sewing Pocket Zip Case with Iron-on-Ink

Hi everyone! It’s designer Betsy Burnett, back with another Iron-on-Ink tutorial I know you will love! Like many Makers I dabble in many different forms of creating; from paper crafting, to painting, sublimation, and sewing. While I do have a dedicated Maker's Space, I find my crafts tend to “travel”, especially the sewing supplies. I needed a way of taking sewing supplies "to-go", from the couch to the studio, while keeping everything organized. Artesprix Canvas Zip Cases are perfect for this, ideal size for holding the sewing supplies. Follow along as you see where we use Iron-on-Ink as well as add our own mixed-media flare!

What is Artesprix Sublimation Craft Ink?
Artesprix Sublimation Inks are specially formulated heat transferred ink. These inks allow you to create personalized designs on polyester coated surfaces and polyester fabrics. Using plain copy paper, you create your design, you then transfer the finished design onto your compatible blank using a heat source and pressure. The results are vibrant, colorful, and best of all permanent! Before Artesprix you needed a fancy printer to experience this level of personalization, but not anymore!
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Using pencil create 3 templates by tracing around the Canvas Zip Case.

Pro Tip: Make note of where the “zipper seam” is if you wish to add trim.
Step 2: Using Artesprix Stamp ink, stamp your designs within your template. Repeat the process to your preference to create 3 stamped template designs. I used some design stamps to color in with blank stamp ink, and I used solid stamps with colored stamp ink.

Step 3: Color in any stamped designs as desired with sublimation markers.
Step 3: Place your Canvas Zip Case face down on to your artwork. Use heat tape to secure in place. Repeat with the other designs with the other Canvas Zip Cases.
Step 4: Create your "sublimation sandwich". Flip over your secured project and place on to a piece of protective paper so the paper is on top. Add an additional piece of protective paper to the top.

Pro Tip #2: Not all blanks are created equal. If you are not using an Artesprix Canvas Zip Case you will want to add a third piece of protective paper to prevent your ink from transferring through to the other side.
Step 5: Time to make the magic! Using your heat press, press your project at 400℉ for 45 seconds. It is important to leave your zipper outside the press.
Step 6: Do a "peek test" to see if your colors transferred.

OOooOOooh look how bright they are!
Step 7: Allow to cool!
Step 8 - 12 are optional.
Step 8: Now to add your flare! Cut your trim to fit along the top seam of the pouch make sure to have a bit extra to fold under to hide the raw edge. Glue in place using the Beacon Adhesives Fabric-Tac.

Step 9: Create your tassel. Remove the paper from the embroidery floss. KEEP TOGETHER! Using plyers open your jump rings and insert the entire thickness of embroidery floss into the ring, and close up. Fold the floss in half using the jumpring as the center point. Using a contrasting color of floss. Cut a 12 inch piece of the 6 strand floss. Tie a knot tightly around the entire thickness of floss about 1/2” under tassel.

Step 10: Tightly wrap one length of the knotted floss around the tassel 4 times. Tightly wrap the other length of the knotted floss around the tassel going the other direction. Knot the ends, add a bit of Fabric-Tac for security, and trim floss strand close to the knot.

Step 11: Holding on to the top of the tassel, use a fine tooth comb to comb through the tassel, this will separate the embroidery floss into individual strands.
Repeat with the other two tassels. You can see the difference between the uncombed on the left and the combed on the right.

Step 10: Attach Loop side of Velcro® to hook side. Cut 4- 3 1/2” lengths. Peel off the backing to the hook side of two pieces of Velcro® attach to the undecorated pouch. Peel off the paper on the other side of the strip. Line-up one of the decorated pouches and press down.

The cute sublimated designs, the trim, and the tassels give it a bit of a designer feel. The fact the three pouches attach together means my supplies can stay organized while still being portable! Looking ahead I can see how this would be perfect to organize make-up or hair accessories too! A place for everything and everything in it’s place, and looking cute while doing it! Going to try this? I would love to see your projects in ourArtesprix Facebook Group !
Happy Crafting!
