Airbrush Sublimation Snowy Pet Bandana with Artesprix
What are Sublimation Arts & Crafts Supplies?
The word "sublimation" is a chemistry term that describes the process of a substance (like Iron-on-Ink) going from a solid state to a gaseous phase and skipping over the liquid phase. In the world of designing custom goods, sublimation offers a permanent way to transfer a design to a polyester surface. The result is a vibrant, custom designed product that is long-lasting and durable. If you’ve always wanted to try sublimation but thought you needed an expensive, specialty printer, you’re in luck because Artesprix makes it possible to sublimate without a sublimation printer!

Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: I start this project off by mixing some paints. My favorite color is teal, so I started with the blue, added a touch of yellow and then a lot of white to make it very light.
Pro Tip: Reference the Paint Color Mixing Chart for accurate results.
Step 2: Next I added the paint to my air brush reservoir and diluted with a lot of water.
Step 3: I sprayed an entire sheet of copy paper, leaving some spots lighter and some darker.
Step 4: Once the paper dries, I stamped the snowflakes randomly across the page. I also splattered some ink across the page too for some extra texture.
Pro Tip #2: With fabric blanks, it is best practice to lint-roll and "pre-press" before transferring the design.
Pro Tip #3: How to "Pre-press": Protect your blank, top and bottom with protective paper (this can be re-used during the transfer process), and press your blank for 10 seconds. This also helps get rid of any wrinkles before adhering our design.
Step 5: After the design dries, trim down if desired, tape it face down to the pet bandana using Heat Tape.
Step 6: Sandwich the bandana and design between 2 pieces of protective paper larger than the blank.
Step 7: Heat at 385°F for 30 seconds.
Step 8: Take a peek to make sure the sublimation ink has transferred. You will want to do this while not removing the design out of place in case you need to press again.
Step 9: If Step 8 was successful, peel off your design and ENJOY!
