Seasonal Sizzix Sublimation Zip Case with Die Cuts & Iron-on-Ink

Artesprix Design Team
Canvas Zip Case, Stamp Pads

Hello again, it's Mandie from Mandie's Scrappin', and I have another fun Artesprix project for the blog! Have you ever used die cuts and layered stencils? If not, you're in luck because I'm going to show you how they both work! Die Cuts are metal designs that come in different variations that can be used with various types of paper to create punched out shapes. We are going to use the new Sizzix Seasonal collection that dropped earlier this month to turn a sublimation cavas zip case into a holiday creation!

What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?

Iron-on-Ink is an innovative craft sublimation medium to create unique designs that you can transfer to a endless selection of blanks. You can create some amazing one-of-a-kind gifts that will last a lifetime. When the finished sublimation design is combined with heat and pressure, the ink turns into a gas and binds to the polyester fabric or poly-coated blank leaving you with a permanent transfer. Between Artesprix's plethora of Iron-on-Ink products and the endless amount of compatible sublimation blanks, the possibilities are endless! Iron-on inks are so fabulous because you don’t have to invest in an expensive printer to create some very cool projects right in your home! Plus, if you’re more “hands on” or “hands inky” like me, I feel you can get so much more creative with the Sublimation Inks, Paints and Markers that Artesprix offers.

Supplies:

Canvas Zip Case 3 Count

Iron-on-Ink Pads

Protective Paper

Heat Tape

Pencil

Sizzix Winter Wishes Stencil

Sizzix Winter Wishes Die Cut

Sponge Daubers or Pads

Washi or Stencil Tape

Heat Source

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: Start by tracing your Canvas Zip Case onto a piece of plain copy paper with a pencil.

Step 2: Taking the first stencil, trace the circles on the left side of the stencil to make lining up the rest of the stencils easy. Then, mask off the flowers on this layer. Use your sponge brush inked with yellow to do the first part of your stencil. Then gently wipe the stencil and mask off the parts opposite the flowers and use pink ink to fill those in.

Continue stenciling each of the 4 layers, but do not worry about the words yet. When all of the layers of the stencil are complete, set this aside.

Step 3: Using your pink and red inks and another small piece of copy paper, ink the page that you will use to die cut your words.

Step 4: Place the die cut on the back side of the paper, we want the words to be mirrored. Then run this through your die cutting machine.

Step 5: Use a tiny amount of adhesive tape runner on the back of the die cut design, just to secure it in place while you press, and add into the center of your stenciled design. Alternatively, you can use adhesive spray.

Pro Tip: Since this is a fabric sublimation blank, it is best practice to lint roll and pre-press the material to wick out any moisture that may interfere with the transfer process.

Step 6: Secure your design, face down to your Canvas Zip Case with Heat Tape.

Step 7: Now you're ready to create your "sublimation sandwich". Use a layer of Protective Paper under your blank, as well as placing one on top. Make sure your design is closest to the heat source and press for 45 seconds at 400 F.

Pro Tip #2: Not all blanks are created equal! The Artesprix Canvas Zip Case is high quality and does not require placing a piece of protective paper inside the bag during transfer to prevent ink from transferring through to the other side.

Step 8: Once pressed you are ready to do a "peek test", carefully lift one corner of the paper to check that your transfer is complete. If it is, you can reveal your whole design! Look at how those colors pop now.

Step 9: Allow to cool before personalizing the other side.

I love how quick and easy it is to create this one-of-a-kind Canvas Zip Case. It is so great that Artesprix allows us to utilize our paper crafting supplies for projects outside of paper. Pair this with a mathching themed holiday card and it is perfect to gift to a friend! There is lots more inspiration on the Artesprix blog for you to see!

Until next time,

Mandie Wade
