Christmas Sublimation Pillow Case with Sizzix Layered Stencils & Artesprix Inks
Hello and welcome! My name is Linh from LVHandcrafted and the holidays are right around the corner! This month's featured sublimation blank is a Pillow Case. Sizzix released new seasonal designs last month and I thought they would make a great accent on this large sublimation blank. Layered stencils are a great way to create colorful sublimation transfers without any fancy equipment. This design is small so it is perfect for those who have a smaller, hand held press.

What are Sublimation Arts & Crafts Supplies?
The word "sublimation" is a chemistry term that describes the process of a substance (like Iron-on-Ink) going from a solid state to a gaseous phase and skipping over the liquid phase. In the world of designing custom goods, sublimation offers a permanent way to transfer a design to a polyester surface. The result is a vibrant, custom designed product that is long-lasting and durable. If you’ve always wanted to try sublimation but thought you needed an expensive, specialty printer, you’re in luck because Artesprix makes it possible to sublimate without a sublimation printer!
Supplies:
Sublimation Blank of the Month Pillow Case
Sizzix Merry & Bright Layered Stencil
Artesprix Iron-on-Ink Pads - Green, Purple, Red, Yellow
Blending Brush
Protective Paper
Heat Tape
Heat Tape Dispenser
Protective Project Mat
Heat Resistant Gloves
Heat Source
Copy Paper/Cardstock
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: I’ll be creating the design in 2 parts. I tape over the portion of the stencil that I want to make sure doesn’t get stenciled through.
Step 2: When you ink blend your first layer with the Sublimation Ink Pads, be sure to ink through the hole in the stencil that would normally fit over the Sizzix stencil and stamp tool. You can use this as a “registration mark” to line up subsequent layers.
Step 3: Line up the next layer being sure to line up the “registration mark” through the hole.
Step 4: Stencil each subsequent layer with a different Sublimation Ink Pad color.
Step 5: Repeat this on a 2nd piece of copy paper with the other half of the design.
Step 6: Trim both papers so you remove the excess paper, especially the registration mark, but still leave enough copy paper margin to apply Heat Tape in the upcoming steps.
Step 7: Fold a piece of protective paper in half so half of it fits inside the pillow case and the other half can fold over your design.
Step 8: Secure both halves of the design to the Pillow Case using Heat Tape.
Step 9: Place a piece protective paper on your Project Mat or base, then add your secured project, and then an additional piece of Protective Paper over your design.
Pro Tip: Pre-press your pillowcase to make sure there are no wrinkles and remove any excess moisture. Be sure to remove any dust by lint rolling before pre-pressing.
Step 10: Heat at 400℉ for 45 seconds.
Step 11: Take a peek test to make sure the sublimation ink has transferred by lifting up a corner of the design, without moving any tape out of place. This way it can be re-pressed if it is not vivid and bright.
Step 12: Once you confirmed your transfer was successful you can reveal your permanent transfer. Allow to cool before personalizing the other side or different areas.
