Easy Thanksgiving Hostess Gift Tag using Artesprix Ornament

Artesprix Design Team
Blank of the Month, Markers, Ornament

Hello! I am Paula from Paula’s Studio. I am primarily a paper crafter who loves to make greeting cards but I also love using paper and my creativity to make other things. My excitement for Artesprix products comes from the ability to use the inks in different forms and techniques to expand on the options of how I can use my skills and artwork. I made a Thanksgiving Hostess Gift Tag using an Artesprix Maple Ornament and Artesprix Markers to attach to a gift for the host of Thanksgiving dinner.

What are Artesprix Sublimation Arts & Crafts Supplies?

Sublimation is the process of taking a solid ink and applying heat and pressure to allow it to vaporize skipping the liquid state. This causes the ink to permanently adhere to the surface if it is primarily a form of polyester or poly-coating as the heat causes the surface to accept the gases leaving behind vibrant and permanent colors. Commercially, printers are used to print the designs. Artesprix provides products such as markers, ink pads, and paints to allow us to create projects at home without committing to a printer and lets us dip into our creative side too.

Supplies:

Maple Ornament

Artesprix Ink Pads – I used black

Artesprix Markers – Basic Chisel 10ct

Artesprix Heat Tape

Artesprix Protective Paper Roll

Copy/printer paper

Pencil

Paintbrush - small

Spray bottle or small dish with water

Autumn stamp set from Farmstead Harvest

Stamping block or positioner if stamp set is unmounted

Scissors

Heat source

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: Trace the blank twice onto the paper and include any holes too as you don’t want to have an important part of your design right where the hole is located.

Pro Tip: For accuracy, find the center of the blank and mark that on the template too.

Step 2: Write “Thanks” or “Thank you” on the back of the paper in the center of the template with a Thin Sharpie. This bleeds through enough so that it can be traced on the front side of the paper with a sublimation marker as our text needs to be backwards. I traced it in brown as I want to use autumn colors.

Step 3: Use an acrylic stamping block to affix the stamps to for stamping. Randomly stamp on the blank space various leaves and other autumn icons of your choice.

Step 4: To create a water color look, use Artesprix chisel markers and scribble a bit on a glass media mat. Spritz water or add drops next to the ink scribble and pick up some of both with your paint brush to color the design.

Step 5: Any media mat or non-porous surface that will not absorb the ink or the water.

Step 6: To create our transfer for the opposite side of your maple ornament, repeat the process. I just changed the sentiment to “Thank you” on the other side.

Step 7: Place the maple ornament on top of your design within the pencil mark of your trace. Use heat resistant tape securely tape the ornament to the paper.

Step 8: Create a "sublimation sandwich" by placing your taped blank between two pieces of protective paper. This protects your heat source from any ink that may be released.

Step 9: Once your heat source has reached 400 apply heat to the side of sandwiched ornament that is where your artwork is for 45 seconds.

Step 10: Be cautious this step is HOT, please use heat protection. Carefully lift a corner of the paper and peek to ensure that the ink is transferred and vibrant on the ornament. If not, heat again and do another test. If so, remove from heat source and let cool.

Step 11: Completely remove the paper and tape to reveal your transferred design.

Step 12: Repeat Steps 7-11.

Step 13: Add the ribbon to the ornament by tying a small knot.

I love bringing a gift to the host/hostess of an event as I think it is really important to tell people: thank you.
