Fun Fall Hair Ribbon Bow with Iron-on-Ink

Hi craft enthusiasts! I’m Designer Naomi, and I am here with a fun fall project for you. I’ll be using the Artesprix September Blank of the Month Satin Ribbon along with Iron-on-Ink stamp pads and a gorgeous stencil from Pink & Main. This ribbon comes in a 10 yard roll, so there is plenty to work with for all of your crafting needs. But don't wait to grab yours, because they are only available in the shop for the month of September.

What is Artesprix Iron-on-Ink?

Artesprix Sublimation Markers, Ink, and Paint are specially formulated to allow you to use basic copy paper to: color, stamp, stencil, and monoprint anything you wish and turn it into a heat-transferable design. These designs are then applied to a polyester or polyester coated substrate with heat and pressure. You can use a heat press or a home iron! These designs, through this process of sublimation, will become permanent on your substrates.

Supplies:
Satin Ribbon

Pink and Main Stencil: Curly Waves

Heat Press or Handheld Heat Source

Sublimation Stamp Pad - Red, Orange, Yellow

Blending Brushes or Sponges

Protective Paper

Heat Tape

Copy Paper

Lint Roller

Alligator Hair Clip

¼’ Ribbon

Glue Gun

Embellishments for Bow

Washi Tape

Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Use washi tape to tape the stencil to a sheet of copy paper. I used Pink & Main “Curly Waves” stencil.

Step 2: Add the first color of ink from your stamp pads to the paper using blending brushes.

Pro Tip: Start from the center of the design using the lightest color. My colors are red, orange, and yellow, so I started with yellow.

Step 3: Add the second stamp pad color, working your way out from the center where you left off with the first color.

Step 4: Repeat with the next color and continue until you reach the edge of the stencil.

Step 5: Cut one 8 inch piece of sublimation ribbon and one 6 ½ inch piece.

Step 6: Place your ribbon on top of the stamped design and use heat tape to tape down.

Step 7: Make a sublimation sandwich using protective paper and your design in this order: (from the bottom up) protective paper, ribbon, design, another sheet of protective paper.

Step 8: Press the ribbon at 400 degrees for 90 seconds using medium pressure.

Step 9: Before removing from the heat press, lift a corner of the design to make sure the design transferred correctly.

If the design is transferred well, you are done and you can remove the tape and paper from the ribbon.  If it is not, press it for a few more seconds.

Step 10: Fold each piece of ribbon in half and then open and fold the ends to the center.

Step 11: Place the smaller piece of ribbon on top of the larger one with both sets of ribbon ends facing the same direction (the smaller ribbon piece is the front).

Step 12: Use a needle and thread to make a few long stitches in order to gather the ribbon pieces together.  Wrap the thread around the middle of the bow when you are done and tie.

Step 13: Glue a small strip of thin ribbon around the middle of the bow to hide the thread.

Step 14: Add the alligator clip to the back of the bow and any embellishments you would like to the center front of the bow.

And just like that, you have a beautiful and unique hair bow.
