Sisterly Love Sequin Pillow with Artesprix Iron-on-Ink
Hi my crafty friends! This is Design Team member Terra O'Brien, and today I have for you a very fun Artesprix Sequin Pillow Case project. If you have not transferred designs to sequins yet, you are in for a treat! Artesprix offers three color types to choose from: silver sequins with white velvet backing, black sequins with black velvet backing, and rose gold sequins with lavender velvet backing. For this project we will be transferring to the rose gold sequins with the lavender velvet backing since this pillow will be going in my daughters' room.
What are Artesprix Sublimation Arts & Crafts Supplies?
If you have never heard or Artesprix you are in for a treat! I am a papercrafter by nature and have heard of sublimation before but it seemed very intimidating until I found Artesprix. I love that Artesprix gives Makers the option to experience sublimation without an expensive sublimation printer to make amazing projects! Artesprix’s products, from the markers to the blanks, are so easy to use and makes it fun. The best part is your projects are lifetime permanent, once heat set, it will not wash-out, fade, crack or peel. It's magic!
Materials:
Artesprix Original Sublimation Markers 10ct
Pencil
Heat Source: Home Iron, Craft Iron, or Heat Press
Copy paper
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Since you have so much space with the Artesprix Sequin Pillow Case I like to map out the space I want to use. I took a regular piece of copy paper and used the whole sheet.
Step 2: Once I have the my design mapped out, I found one of my favorite fonts and traced it backwards. All text for sublimation needs to be “mirrored” or traced backwards or it will not transfer in the correct direction.
Step 3: Now that I have my word traced in pencil, I let my daughters pick a couple of the Artesprix Original Sublimation Markers 10ct to use for the design. They chose pink, purple, yellow and blue. I used the pink to go over my outline, then alternated with the other colors to fill it in, so colorful! The markers dry fairly quickly so I did not have to wait long to go in with my next color.
Step 4: I started to lay out my design onto my Artesprix Sequin Pillow Case to ensure I liked where my design fit. I decided to incorporate a few sizes of a solid heart stamps and a few of the Sublimation Stamp Pad colors to add some more design aspects to the final transfer.
Step 5: Now that you have your design is finished, it it's time to transfer. Flip all the sequins so the white side is showing, this can be done with your hand mostly, if you have a few stragglers, use tweezers or a weeding tool to ensure they are all flipped to the white side. Secure your design face-down to the Artesprix Sequin Pillow Case using the Artesprix Heat Safe Tape. I am always very generous with my tape because I don’t want my blanks to move or shift while heating.
Step 6: Now it is time for a very important step to make your "sublimation sandwich". Using your Artesprix Protective Paper you want a piece under your Artesprix Sequin Pillow Case and you also want to place a piece on top. You may be wondering if you need a piece in-between to prevent your design from transferring through to the backside, the Artesprix Sequin Pillow Case is high quality so this is not needed for this blank.
Step 7: Set your Heat Press timer for 60 seconds and press to 400℉. Once your heat source is up to temperature, transfer your design to your pillow case.
Step 8: This is one of my favorite steps the "peak test"! This is the time to pull up just a small corner to ensure that the design transferred the way you wanted to. If it looks great you can peel your design off!
Step 9: The BIG REVEAL! Be very careful when removing the design off of your Artesprix Sequin Pillow Case it will be hot. I like to take it off the press and let it sit on a heat safe mat until it’s fully cooled.
My girls love these pillow cases. They would be such a fun gift, or use the black colored option to create some spooky decor this Fall!
Thank you so much for joining me with this project today! If you decide to make your own sequin pillow case be sure to share it with us on social using the #artesprix or #irononink.
