It’s Mandie from Mandie’s Scrappin’ bringing you another Artesprix Design Team project, and this time it’s the new Blank of the Month a Decorative Sign Sublimation Blank. This blank is a wonderful canvas that can be used in so many ways. I decided to make a Summertime sign to hang on my front door to welcome visitors all season long.

What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?

Iron-on-Ink is an innovative craft sublimation medium to create unique designs that you can transfer to a endless selection of blanks. You can create some amazing one-of-a-kind gifts that will last a lifetime. When the finished sublimation design is combined with heat and pressure, the ink turns into a gas and binds to the polyester fabric or poly-coated blank leaving you with a permanent transfer. Between Artesprix's plethora of Iron-on-Ink products and the endless amount of compatible sublimation blanks, the possibilities are endless! Iron-on inks are so fabulous because you don’t have to invest in an expensive printer to create some very cool projects right in your home! Plus, if you’re more “hands on” or “hands inky” like me, I feel you can get so much more creative with the Sublimation Inks, Paints and Markers that Artesprix offers.

Supplies:

Sublimation Stamp Ink Refill
Sublimation Markers Basic Fine 10 Ct
Protective Paper
Heat Tape
Heat Source
Preferred Cutting Machine
White Adhesive Vinyl
Plain Copy Paper

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: Place the piece of paper on a Teflon mat. Start by wetting the whole sheet of paper with water using a paintbrush.

Step 2: Paint the paper using the Artesprix Sublimation Stamp Ink Refills. Use Pink and Green to create a Watermelon coloring, leaving some space in-between the two colors and create varying shades of pink.

Step 3: While we wait for that to dry we are going to cut White Adhesive Vinyl in Cricut Design Space. Unlike Sublimation, some vinyls are removable allowing you to change your message anytime.

Step 4: Once our machine starts to cut our vinyl, and our watermelon background is dry, draw watermelon seeds using the Black Fine Tip Sublimation Marker from the Basic color set.

Step 5: With the finished sublimation design and Heat Tape, secure the transfer to face-down to the white side of the sign.

Step 6: Now you will make your "sublimation sandwich". Use a layer of Protective Paper, then your blank with the design closest to the heat source, and then another layer of Protective Paper. This step will help protect your work surfaces and heat source from unwanted sublimation ink stains.

Step 7: You’re ready to press! The recommended time and temperature for the Decorative Sign is 400℉ for 105 seconds.

Step 8: Once it’s pressed, you’ll want to carefully do a "peek test", before removing any tape out of place, lift up a corner of the design to ensure your sign is vibrant.

Step 9: Step 8 was a success, and WOW do those colors pop! You can now peel off the rest of the paper to reveal transferred design.

Step 10: Allow your Decorative Sign to completely cool before adding the white adhesive vinyl text from Step 3.

Step 11: Add a glittery bow and ribbon to hang your new sign and you’ve got a beautiful piece of custom décor!

I love how simple Artesprix makes it to create gorgeous decorations for my home. If you do not have white adhesive vinyl you could use a Black Chisel Sublimation Marker or cut out the words from the painted background using your machine. Don't forget these Decorative Signs are only available for a limited time! Make sure you check out the Artesprix Facebook page for more inspiration and ideas.

Until next time,

Mandie Wade
