Plastic Key Chain Project with Iron-on-Ink!

Design a Key Chain using Iron-on-Sublimation Markers & Sublimation Ink Pad.

Fall in LOVE with this DIY keychain Sublimation Project!

Good morning. Nicole here! I’m excited to share this adorable Plastic Key Chain I created using Artesprix Sublimation Markers and the Sublimation Ink Pad that is available in the shop. Since this project is perfect for summer, I plan on decorating my beach bag with it. The crab stamp image is from the Shellabrate Stamp Set from Trinity Stamps. Seriously, Isn’t he adorable? If you look closely, you will see that the crab and shell has two different shades of reds and blues. Don’t be afraid to use a variety of markers from different sets! Sometimes, mixing the sets will enhance the details of your project!

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1:

First, place the Plastic Key Chain on a plain piece of copy paper and trace the outline using a pencil. By tracing, this will determine the area that you have to work with. As a reminder, the pencil does not transfer through to your plastic key chain.

Step 2:

Mount your stamp on an acrylic block and stamp the image on the copy paper using Artesprix Sublimation Ink Pad. For the “Let’s Shellabrate!” sentiment, I stamped the sentiment on a separate piece of copy paper and then I flipped the paper backward and traced it against the main image against the window. By doing so, I was able to create a mirrored image. That way, once the image is complete and transfers to the key chain, it will not be backward.

Step 3:

Next, color your stamp design using your Iron-on-Ink sublimation markers. I used the Artesprix OriginalGnomie Botanical, and Pastel Sublimation Markers to color in my images. Don’t worry if the colors look a little dull after you are finished coloring in the images because the heat press will enhance the colors to their original vibrant colors!

Step 4:

Using Artesprix Heat Tape, tape your blank down to your design. If you are using the Artesprix Heat Press, you only need one on each side to hold it down. If using an Artesprix Heat Press for this Plastic Key Chain project, set the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and timer to 60 seconds.

Step 5:

Now, it’s time to create a sublimation sandwich. Cut two pieces of Protective Paper to cover your project on the top and bottom. Place it inside the Heat Press and close the machine. Make sure your image faces the top of the heat press so that the colors come out as vibrant as possible.

Step 6:

The Heat Press will beep indicating that your project is finished! While wearing protective gloves, lift the handle and take your project out. Place it on top of the project mat and wait for about 5 minutes to cool down. Please avoid removing heat tape too soon, otherwise, you will get burned.

Step 7:

Gently, remove the heat tape and paper from the Plastic Key Chain to reveal your awesome design!

This is, without a doubt, one of my favorite things to make because it is simple and easy to make. Plus, I tend to work better with smaller spaces. What do you think? Are you ready to give these Sublimation Markers a try? I promise you that once you try it, you won’t wanna stop! Stop by the shop today and grab a few blanks of your choice. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to pick up a few Sublimation Markers and a Sublimation Ink Pad!
