Hey everyone, Sarah here! I am so excited about this project. My daughter starts kindergarten this Fall. As I was looking at her needed school supplies, I noticed that a zipper pencil pouch was on her list. This was the perfect opportunity to personalize something for her. She will be able to look at it if she is a little afraid and know that I made it just for her. Hopefully it will help her adjust to being in kindergarten just knowing that it was something special just for her from me.
What are Sublimation Markers?
Artesprix Sublimation Markers so easy to use. You just pick one up and start drawing. The best part is you do not need any fancy or expensive equipment. Just plain copy paper, an iron or heat press, and a blank made for sublimation. But keep in mind that not all sublimation blanks are created equal, some are better quality than others. That’s why I love using Artesprix blanks. I know they are high quality and have been tested by Artesprix to use with their markers.
Materials:
Sassy and Crafty Donut Sprinkle Stencil
Crayon Design (Design ID 300106) from the Silhouette Design Store
Sublimation Markers I used most of the Primary Pack (and a couple of colors from the original pack)
Copy Paper
Heat press or iron
Step-By-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: For this project, I did not trace my blank. I measured the blank and sized my design to fit within the measurements. I also changed the word CRAYONS in the original design to my daughter’s name using the Arial font.
Step 2: Because my design has text, it needs to be mirrored (or flipped horizontally) so the text reads backwards. This is because when you press it, it will press the correct way.
Step 3: For this project, I sketched using several different colors. I used the “cut by fill color” options in the Silhouette Software. Using your Silhouette machine, pen holder with the large adapter, and your Artesprix Sublimation Markers sketch out your design on the copy paper you traced your blank on. When sketching with multiple colors it is important to NOT unload your project when switching colors. Simply switch out the marker and send it through with the corresponding color selected. Step 4: Once the design is sketched, unload it from your machine and start coloring. This is always my favorite part.
Pro Tip: I like to set my Heat Press to temperature now, so it heats up while I color. For this Blank, set the Heat Press to 400°F.
Step 5: Once I was done coloring, I used my Sassy and Crafty stencil and randomly colored in parts of the stencil all around my design to fill in any space on the zip case.
Step 7: Position your blank on the design and tape it in place.
Step 8: Once it’s taped in place, create your sublimation sandwich. A sublimation sandwich is made up of a layer of protective paper, your blank with the design secured to it, and another piece of protective paper.
Step 9: Place the sublimation sandwich on your press. Once your heat source reaches temperature, press your zip case for 45 second. When pressing the zip case, I made sure that the zipper was not under the heat press. I did not want to melt it, so I made sure that part of my case was off the edge of the press. When the time is up, do a peek test to make sure you got a good transfer.
Step 10: If you got a good transfer, use heat gloves to move the case to a heat resistant surface. I just my Artesprix Protective Project mat. Once cooled enough to touch, remove the copy paper and heat tape.
These zip cases have so many uses. I already have plans to make more of them.
