Surreal Blank of Month Garden Flag Using Sublimation Markers

Hi Everyone, it's Design Team Member Mandie and today I have a really fun project to share made with the featured Blank of the Month, the Garden Flag. Today I got my youngest daughter involved with this craft because she's always asking for new room décor. This displayable blank canvas is the perfect substrate for her to hang on her wall! These blanks are only available for a limited time, so don't wait to get yours if you want to try this project!

What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?
Iron-on-Ink is an innovative craft sublimation medium to create unique designs that you can transfer to a endless selection of blanks. You can create some amazing one-of-a-kind gifts that will last a lifetime. When the finished sublimation design is combined with heat and pressure, the ink turns into a gas and binds to the polyester fabric or poly-coated blank leaving you with a permanent transfer. Between Artesprix's plethora of Iron-on-Ink products and the endless amount of compatible sublimation blanks, the possibilities are endless! Iron-on-Inks is fabulous because you don’t have to invest in an expensive sublimation printer to create some high quality projects right in your home! Plus, if you’re more “hands on” or “hands inky” like me, I feel you can get so much more creative with the Sublimation Inks, Paints and Markers that Artesprix offers!

Supplies:

Garden Flag Blank

Sublimation Markers

Heat Tape

Protective Paper Roll

Plain Copy Paper

Heat Source

Scissors

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: I gave a plain sheet of computer paper and sublimation markers to my daughter and asked her to fill in the entire sheet of paper with any design she wanted for her room.

Pro Tip: Even with filling in the entire sheet of paper, we will have a white border around our transfer as the paper is smaller than the blank. Alternatively you can use a larger piece of paper to create on, one that is larger than the Garden Flag.

Step 2:  Once the drawing is complete we are ready to transfer. You will start by laying the drawing face down in the center of the flag and taping it in place with Heat Tape.

Step 3: Create your "Sublimation Sandwich". Lay a piece of Protective Paper larger than your flag on your pressing surface, then add your secured project with the paper on top, and add one more sheet of Protective Paper over the top.

Step 4: Press your blank at 400℉ for 55 seconds.

Step 5: Carefully lift a corner of your design for the "peek test". If it looks good, remove the paper design from the top and reveal your new flag!

Step 6: Allow to cool and add to stand, etc. (not included).

I had a lot of fun teaching my 15 year old how to create her own custom decor for her room using sublimation. She is already asking when we can make our own apparel and accessories! Artesprix makes it so easy with their Iron-on-Ink Markers and beautiful blanks.

Don't forget to grab these Garden Flags from the Artesprix Shop before they are no longer available! To see more of my Artesprix work search my name on the Artesprix website or visit Mandie's Scrappin' here.

Until next time,
